The joy of no alarm and no schedule other than the thought of renting a bicycle is refreshing. We were lucky to enter the Netto (grocery store) 2 minutes before closing last night so we had eggs and bagels to cook for breakfast. After we got ourselves organized, we wandered over to the bike rental place. We followed a bike path along the coastline for a while, then ventured inland to see if we could find the Rise Brewery. Found it! - but only after going down a hill only to discover we needed to go back up it - burning calories in advance of consuming them. A rain storm showed up as we were at the brewery eating lunch, it passed over quickly in time for us to get back on the road. We saw many small towns - one more charming than the next. Friendly people stopping and making sure we were not lost. We ended up at the same beach as yesterday - pulling us in like a magnet. Dinner back at the hotel was nice - made better by dining with our new friends from Germany, Elka and Brigitte.
What a beautiful place - wheat fields butted up against the sea. The funny thing is that they have the same prairie plants and weeds that you find in Wisconsin.
A beer flight for me and a golden for Monique. Good reward for all the pedaling.
In Denmark they have bike locks that are permanently attached and lock the back tire. They have metal tabs that you push in or out to figure out the code - we are learning.
Mostly farmers inland on the island. I looked in the gap between two houses and saw this field. The island hopes to be energy self sufficient in the coming years and they are well on their way.
