Two artists/parents/grandparents/suburbanites who wanted to take time off to travel. We sold our house and decided to do just that. After all, the only thing holding you back, is fear and common sense.

The pot of gold

There is only one ferry that goes to Bergen on Sundays and it leaves at 17:00 - so we donned our raincoats and hung out in Balestrand. We found some more viking burial mounds including that of King Bele. He was a central character in the Fritjof Saga - an Icelandic saga from the early 1300's. Those Vikings got around! There was a cool church - St Olafs which inspired the Disney team when making the movie Frozen. Also, the hotel we stayed in - the Kviknes Hotel - was built in Swiss chalet style and was Norway's largest wooden building when it was completed - we just called it home for 2 nights. Our 4 hour ferry ride to Bergen was rainy at times - but we saw some great rainbows and crazy skies. Bergen looks like a great city - it was raining when we arrived. It is rainy more days than sunny here - we are leaving early - we will have to visit another time.

We were settling into our seats, thinking it might rain the entire ferry ride. But the fjord’s weather is very unpredictable and there were spots of sunshine which created some surreal skies.

In case you were wondering where to find the pot of gold - it’s in Norway, in that little white house.
